Dr Yorck Olaf Schumacher
Sports Medicine Physician
Yorck Olaf Schumacher completed his medical studies in Germany and South Africa. He obtained specialisation in internal medicine and sports medicine. In 2012 he joined Aspetar Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital. Dr Schumacher has been team physician for the German Olympic Team since 2000 and attended many international sporting events in that function. His research interest ranges from sports science and physiology to clinical sports medicine. His focus recently has been on sports haematology and the adaptation of the haematological system of the athlete to different environments.
Dr Carolyn Emery
Physiotherapist and Sports Injury Epidemiologist
Dr Carolyn Emery is Associate dean Research in the Faculty of Kinesiology at the University of Calgary. She is a physiotherapist and sports injury epidemiologist. Her research fields include sport injury epidemiology, randomised controlled trials in injury prevention in sport and rehabilitation in paediatrics and sport medicine. Her research focuses primarily on injury prevention in child and adolescent sport and recreation. The primary focus of Dr Emery’s research programme is the identification of risk factors for injury and evaluation of prevention strategies to reduce the risk of injury in youth sport and recreation. This includes prevention of longer term sequelae, including osteoarthritis, to promote active and healthy lifestyles and to maximise the benefits of rehabilitation in paediatrics and sport medicine.
